The word Dramatic Irony is connected with tragedy or tragic drama. The word or acts of a character in a play carry a meaning unparcived by himself but under stood by the audience.
The best example of it is Oedipus written by Sophocles. In this drama we find that Oedipus is seeking the murdered. But at the end of play we come to know that he killed his father and marry with his mother. So this is the most tragic part for character and Structure.
There is another kind of dramatic Irony. Where a person speaks word which later on recall upon him. This term has another also it describes the situation which arises when a character in a play speaks line which are understood in a double sense by the audience.
For example the dialogue form the play Othello by William Shakespeare.
" I am not what I am"
The audience know the situation very well but the character can not understand the lines which spoken by another character. Dramatic Irony is when the words and actions of the characters of a work of literature have a different meaning for the reader than they do for the character.
There are many great example of dramatic Irony like, the Scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.so we can say that dramatic Irony is part of drama. Dramatic Irony is a relationship of contract between a character's limited understanding of his or her situation in some particular moment of the unfolding action and what the audience, at the same instant, understands the character situation actually to be.
Thank you.
