Teaching English as 'Second Language' in India by Kapil Kapoor.
In this Research paper Kapil kapoor has disused about how English has been accepted from Independence and what is the position of this language in present. Before independence Indians had strong belief that it is language of colonial people or language of Britisher, but after independence they come to know that it is important language and without English language they cant communicate with the world. And finally they have accepted English as second language.
-
Then he has differentiated what is first language? (L1), what is second language? (L2) and what is third language (L3).
The first language is the mother -tongue or the regional language.
The second language is to enable the speaker for wider participation in society, and the nation leading to secondary socialization
The third language (L3) is introduced simultaneously or after the initiation of second language introduced the third language is to paperer the learner a working knowledge of the language.
He has also given the chronological distribution of the three language in the school syllabus system. then he has presented the report about of the role of English in India. He has also presented the relation between the first and second language and how the second language learning should be.
The first language is the language introduced in the school as a subject and also used as the medium of expression by the learner in his social communication.
The second language is introduced compulsorily in the primary level and in the beaning of the lower secondary stage after the attain of sufficient proficiency in the in the first language by the learner.
The third language is intruded after the introduction of second language generally the in grade VIII.
While concluding this topic it can be said that English teaching method and methodology can be improved, and teachers also should focus there style of teaching.
