Swami and his friend

        Hello
        friends,

Here is my view on the novel Swami and his friend.

Swami and his friend novel written by R.K Narayana in 1993. It is a great child story. Swami and his friend is the first of a trilogy of novel. R.K Narayan was a Indo Anglian writer and short story writer. One of his great achievements is his creation of  famous town of 'Malgudi' like Hardy's Wessex'. In this novel chief character is " Swaminathan" insort "Swami". He is ten years old boy and he doesn't like study and he also enjoy with her four friends Somu, Shankar, Mani and Samuel 'The pea' and his new friend Rajam. So this novel's title also consider Swami and his friends.

we find many theme in this novel like, True friendship (Human relationship), School, Family, Child psychology, struggle ( for freedom),  Stream of conscious mind, Loneliness etc. This novel divided in 19 chapters.

Swaminathan is a ten years old boy. He studying a Albert mission School in malgudi.  Swami is a child hero of the novel. In this novel Swami tells about the small village in malgudi at Bank of Sariyu.

Child Psychology:
In this novel Swami's character attracting every once mind as a boy and mind of psychology. R.K Narayan narrated so many events related with swami and his friends, like Political activity, established of M.C.C (Malgudi cricket club), desired to get a hoop, as a tale of Rajam, as a good bowler etc. At the and of novel when Rajam leave malgudi by the train. swami was much pained and hurt. But he reached the station in time to did farewell to his friend. He carried with him Anderson's  Fairy Tales to give to his friend as a "parting present". But he could not talk to rajam for the and his present were surrounded throughout by the police and the districts officers of Malgudi. He could not even approach him and when the train started he appealed to Mani to at least try to give to him the present which he had brought for him.

Swami's story end on a note of pathos. R.K. Narayan's novel swami and his friends also has a let's say not so happy ending. This is no moral at the end because that is not Narayan's intention. There is only a feeling of having been allowed to enter a child's world on his own terms.
